| Here are a few tips to keep your RV in good condition |
Is your coach ready? Don't wait until the last minute to check your motor home or trailer for problems that might have developed over a period of time, not being used. Check them out at least 2 weeks before you want to take them out and make sure every thing is alright. It is better to do your repairs at home. Repairs on the road can be expensive and dig into your fun time. Prevention: City water Always make sure that you use a water regulator. Always connect your regulator at the faucet not the RV . This will save your hose When hooking up to water at the first of the season open hot water valve on any faucet in you coach (not the pop off valve on the hot water tank). This will allow purging of the water system in your RV without clogging the pop off valve (causing a slow drip or leak). Clean screen filters on all faucet spouts. Electrical hook-up 30 amp service > Make sure that you do not hook up to 220 VAC. Check for freighed ends or melted plugs and replace. Check for cuts or splits in wire casings. Appliances Refrigerators>There are several Norcold and Dometic Refrigerators that have recall parts for them. The most important thing you need to do is call with your Model # and Serial # of your refrigerator so that if it does fall under recall we can get the parts replaced for you to prevent future problems that can occur if not fixed. In most cases the replacement of these parts are of no charge to you. Furnaces> Prevent mud daubers from getting in your furnace. Placing a mud dauber screen over the intake and exhaust holes on the outside of your coach will save you money and a large headache in the future. Air Conditioners > Check your A/C gasket at least once a year. Usually in the spring is best. Check for loose bolts in the flange. Check to see that fan motor and coils are free of mud daubers. The critters can be a very costly nuisance. If you have a heating coil make sure that it is kept clean. Wheels and Tires Bearings >Have your wheel bearings checked annually, whether you've used your RV or not, or every 12,000 miles whichever comes first. Accumulation of moisture from storage will damage them just as quickly as wear from heavy usage. They may not need repacking every year, but to be safe on your next trip they need to be checked. Tires >Overloading your tires or having low tire pressure are two of the main causes of tire failure. Not using proper weight distribution can cause tire overload. Today's R.V.s offer a great amounts of storage space and as a result we tend to try and use up all of it which also can cause tire overloads and result in tire failure. Roof Maintaining your roof is vital to the life of your RV. It is important to keep it water tight. Check the roof seals in the Spring before traveling and Fall before storage. Inspect the roof sealant on every protruding fixture on your roof. Even the tiniest of cracks can become a huge problem in the future if not taken care of immediately. Small leaks may cause costly damage to the structure of your R.V.. Flaking or peeling seals should be thoroughly cleaned off and resealed . Before you leave home or your camping sight, you need to check for the following: Is your antenna down Are all of your tires aired up Are your compartment doors closed Is your awning secured do all of your lights, signals and brakes work Is your power cord put up Is your hitch properly latched Remember, take a little time to make simple checks and fixes.
